Tesla coil car security

Telsa Coil car alarm

I own and drive a Merecdes SLK 55 AMG and every time I lock it in the garage I’m almost too scared to leave it alone. My insurance requires me to install security features that cost me well over $10,000 not to mention a monthly payment to the GPS tracking company, however, even with all those security features I know that the car is not completely safe.

That all changed when I saw the image above. We’re talking about a tesla coil serrounding your  car, I don’t know about much about the average thief but I’m pretty sure seeing something like this will surely scare away most of the thief’s out there.

There’s not very much rampant sex on here, I’ll have to fix that at some point I guess!

Which is why I will be starting a new category in the next few weeks to combat the lack of rampant sex, by posting pictures of rampant fruitfly sex!

Yes, it really is just an excuse for me to post pictures of my biology experiment mating…

The Amazin’ Beer Chiller

The Amazin’ Beer Chiller

Using patented XTR technology (read: two double a batteries and ice) the Amazin’ Beer Chiller chills 12- or 16-ounce cans of beer from room temperature in no time!

The secret is that the beer chiller creates a (prepare for marketing dribble) vortex within the can that exposes all of the beer to the chilled aluminium skin AS FAST AS POSSIBLE! and the chilled beers are ready to drink in as soon as two minutes.

Not sure if I believe this XTR mombo jumbo but for $19.95 how big of a waste of money could it be?

I have no idea what are the avrege drinking habits of the people who actually read this blog but I’m sure most of you would appriciate your very own personal beer cooler next to your keyboard. I know I would. Yet again, I have my own minifridge at my office.

And by the way, this post wasn’t endorsed by PayPerPost.

We’re doomed!

Okay, so maybe we aren’t but the military has managed to develop a laser which can sustain an output power of 67kW, that’s 67000 Watts or 670 one hundred Watt light bulbs…

Well, a bad analogy but the power consumption is fairly similar if you think of it in those terms.

It’s the first time this has been achieved, although there have been lasers which surpass this they have never been able to achieve it for extended periods of time, which is why a laser which can sustain 67kW for an extended period of time is a very big deal.

It also means that we’ll be seeing lasers on the battlefield if all goes well within the next few years, something which I’m looking forward to because they’ll help to save innumerable lives. Got a mine or improvised explosive device that needs clearing? Point the laser at it and watch it explode from a safe distance, no one has to go near it, which prevents injuries not only to military personnel but also innocent bystanders.

It may even prove useful in missile defence, with lasers having a range of several miles and still being effective, obviously the military is extremely interested in having a quick and relatively cheap way of eliminating aerial targets without the use of potentially inaccurate ordinance…

I’m sure we’ll find out more as this develops, the 100kW laser will be a milestone in military history, much like, not that 67kW is something to overlook, being a necessary stage in development. Much like the 8 megajoule rail gun recently tested by the Navy, with them wanting to achieve 64MJ within the near future, and a 32MJ prototype during 2007.

Of course the scariest laser has to be the 1MW chemical laser which is to be carried by a modified 747 cargoplane.

Rumours

Filed under: Blogverts — Andreas @ 9:27 pm

Supposedly everyone likes a good rumour, and PPP feel the same way, which is why they’ve come up with this opportunity, supposedly they’ll be announcing something amazing within the next few weeks and us posties are supposed to guess what it is.

Well, what could it be? Are PayPerPost expanding into something even more exciting than what they’ve done up to now?

You never know, surely their Rockstartup documentary has to be followed with something to surpass it.

Or could it be that they’re going public?

I’d like to take an opportunity to ask you on your opinion of what they’re going to do, what do you think? As you know I value the opinion of my readers highly, and always welcome their input on any and all topics, sponsored posts are no exception, so get involved!

That would normally have been my first guess, but I’m not sure that PPP have been around long enough to go public yet. On the other hand, if they are, what do marketing company shares usually go to?

Will it be worth investing in them? Probably, it is an exciting and dynamic company after all…

Are they going to give away share packets to certain members for the excellent work they’ve done so far, or something similar?

I guess we’ll find out soon enough!

What do you think they’re going to do? I highly value you the opinion of my readers, so I’d just love to hear from you and what you think they might be doing.

Possibly they might just be expanding overseas…

Truphone

Filed under: General — Andreas @ 3:42 pm

I was reluctant at first to blog about Truphone, because it’s a subject which appears to have been covered by a lot of other blogs, but they seem to be mostly regurgitating the opinions of others as well as things mentioned in press releases, so I decided I may as well write about my user experience.

I quite like it, but I have a few problems with it which I’d like to point out, some of which will need to be corroborated by other Truphone users if possible.

It may just be me, but their site doesn’t seem to render properly in FireFox, some menus are not visible until I mouse-over, their login interface is a little clumsy and the site is generally slow, at least for me. So that’s something they’ll need to work on, luckily they’re still in the beta phase which means that these bugs will hopefully be ironed out at some point in the near future.

The application itself makes my E61 a little sluggish, it takes a bit longer to boot up than it did before as truphone decides to launch itself at start up, rather than when I want it to, I suppose people want to be able to use their VOIP service instead of their GSM provide (god knows I do) but it should give me the option to not have it launch at start-up.

However Truphone does have a lot of great aspects to it, the sound quality is very good, and most importantly I’ve got free calls to UK landlines and 39 other destinations until the 31st of March. This obviously means that I’m not the one who uses it the most, it’s my mother because anything which offers free calls obviously means she can call her sister for hours at a time…

I’ll probably continue to use Truphone, because I can call people for free on other VOIP services, and receive calls from them. On the other hand I also have my E61 set up to use sipgate, which also offers free calls to and from other VOIP providers, the cool thing would be the ability to call skype users and to be called by them.

Skype are evil by not having a working Symbian client available for download, which I find somewhat alienating because I’m not really one to sit in front of my computer and talk to people that way, but free calls from my mobile is a completely different matter, one where I’d welcome a portable Skype client.

Going back to Truphone, as I said I may continue to stick to them unless they end up being more expensive than sipgate in which case I’ll go back to using them…Or we might end up in the situation where one is cheaper than the other for certain things, in which case I’d use them both.

Lastly, and this is my main problem with truphone, is as previously mentioned that it starts up as soon as I switch on my phone, which means my phone tries to connect to the wireless network specified by the access point truphone wants to use, which means that it connects to my home network if I’m at home.

Why would I have a problem with that? (And this isn’t some paranoid issue)

I have a problem with it, because if the E61 is connected to a wireless network it drains its battery roughly twice as fast as it usually would.

I hope you found this helpful.

Wii stuff

As you’ve probably heard I recently won £500 in a competition, which means I now have ample money to buy a Wii, sadly there don’t appear to be any in stock, which would normally annoy me, and to be honest it did annoy me after spending last Thursday, Friday and parts of Saturday trying to find a Wii as well as this Tuesday/Wednesday.

Not that it matters, I’ve decided that after being unable to find one, I’m not going to try to buy one until more are available and getting one isn’t such a hassle. It’s the better option, it also means I don’t have to walk up and down Oxford Street with £200 in my pocket, which makes me a bit nervous even though it shouldn’t… I blame the crowds.

What I’ve done is pay all the money into my account, where it’ll stay until I use it to buy the Camera I’ve got my eye on, I have been meaning to switch to digital for a while now so I may as well finally get around to it and buy a digital SLR, right?

I bet this wouldn’t happen if I was a PS3 idiot :(

Philip K. Dick

Filed under: General, Scifi — Andreas @ 6:21 pm

I read Flow, My Tears, the Policeman Said (S.F.Masterworks S.) a few nights ago, and it’s an extremely good book, but then I read a lot of Science Fiction and since reading a collection of his works, Dick has become one of my favourite authors.

I’m obsessed with Blade Runner, so reading some of Dick’s works was the natural progression, so far I have not been disappointed, always important when reading in my opinion.I highly doubt I’ll be disappointed by him, I haven’t yet… I quite like how most of his books are set in what to us is the past, most of the books I’ve read so far are either set in the’80s the’90s or the early ’00s, with ‘04 being as far as I’ve come…

Anyway, the book in question deals with the experiences of one man in what is ultimately a police state, and the people around him, with the main character going from being a well known superstar to “an ordinary”, it’s extremely well written and surprises you throughout, so well worth a read.

Tell me if you like it?

The Great Nakedness…

I was talking about a veriety of randing things, like I usually do, with a friend on IRC (who contributes to this blog from time to time) and somehow the conversation turned to internet startups as it does from time to time and how we should form our own. Obviously we’d get someone else to code the backend for us, but that’s another matter and laziness on our part.

Anyway he pointed out that I had a free registration available to me through dreamhost and since I hadn’t used it I may as well use it on that domain, which we’re unlikely to use, so I did.

I am now the (proud) owner of nakedrewards.com the latest addition to my list of weird domain names, this obviously being one of them.

And here comes my call for some reader involvement, because I don’t want to install wordpress on it then let it stagnate like I did with hyperglobalmegacompunet.co.uk… So what should I do with nakedrewards.com?

Any and all suggestions are welcome, you never know I may end up doing them.

Happy commenting?
