I hate MMORPGs
I’ve probably not mentioned this before but I really hate MMORPGs for several reasons.
They’re time consuming, you spend a lot of time playing the game and probably don’t advance very much, or if you do there is always some reason to keep on playing.
So people end up spending a lot of time playing them, ridiculous amounts of time really.
They cost money, most games do but MMORPGs tend to have subscription fees. Their developers and the people behind the games know how addictive they are, and much like drug dealers they can’t wait for you to come back for your next fix in the form of the monthly subscription fee.
You may have heard of EVE Online, if I remember correctly they were and probably still are one of the major contributors to the Icelandic economy.
So we’ve established a few bad points so far, I shall continue.
Combining the two, people get very much into playing the games and if they don’t play a certain amount they probably feel they’re not getting their money’s worth, after all they are laying down their hard earned cash.
So what happens is that you get people who become increasingly distant, although some people would counter this by saying this sort of game fosters social interaction. I even know a couple who play WoW sitting beside each other.
The problem is that it only fosters social interaction within the game and all other channels may go ignored.
That my dear friends is why I hate MMORPGs.
I’ve recently started to hate them even more because one of my closest friends has started to play Guild Wars again, and what a dark day it was for me.
I just hope it won’t get worse.
