Blood

So I saw Blood the last Vampire today, it wasn’t too bad and is definitely something I would watch again but that being said there are a couple of things I really disliked.

The special effects were rather bad and reminded me of something which would have been considered to be amazing graphics in the early nineties, sort of like Babylon 5.
This had the result of making blood drops from the various amputations and decapitations look extremely fake to the point of being lame.

A lot of the action sequences had blurry, out of focus closeups which I suppose were meant to denote that something was going on but struck me as sloppy technique.

The blurriness however could have been down to the cinema as I noticed it in other parts as well.

That being said it was thoroughly enjoyable albeit a little short and with a disappointing ending.

Moving on with the times

I gave in and decided to buy a new mp3 player after I came to the conclusion that my 6 year old 2.5″ hard drive based one was too big to carry around with me, the battery dying helped it along to.

I’ve ordered a Samsung P3 after being told about it by a friend in Korea, he made it seem very impressive and after reading up on it I decided it’s exactly what I need.

As well as your standard mp3/wma/WAV support it can also play Ogg Vorbis and FLAC files, as well as out of the box divX/Xvid support and h.264 which I don’t use.

It features a lot more but I’ll go into more detail once I get it, unboxing porn anyone?

Almost ready to commute again

My luggage rack came in the mail yesterday and after about 10 minutes I had it on my bike, it only took that long because a bolt decided it didn’t want to go through the stay without me nearly stripping its head but after replacing it with a new one it was on there within a couple of minutes.

The new tyres came on Tuesday and I’ve not put them on yet, I’m going to see how I’ll fare without them first and if I can get away with using my current tyres I’ll just keep the other ones for the fall/winter.

The only thing I’m waiting on is the pannier bag I bought on eBay to save £4 because I’m a giant cheapskate, the dude is at a conference and had I bought it from a normal retailer I’d have the damn thing by now.

Woot Entry

So my friend Shayla’s entered the current woot t-shirt derby with this, I think it’s pretty cool and would like to see it done as a shirt and maybe you do too?

Even if you don’t you should probaby check out the derby because it has a lot of cool entries so it’ll be interesting to see who wins.

In case you’re not aware of it shirt.woot.com is one of the better sources of t-shirts online in my opinion.

My employers are the best…

They did this last year as well so it doesn’t really surprise me that it happened again so here it is:

They know I am a student, they have a student tax form for me, yet they somehow managed to make me pay income tax when I’m well below the 6.5k tax free allowance and have not earned a penny before today this tax year.

Oh well, I’ll get the money back as soon as I get in touch with accounts but it happening two years in a row is annoying, y’know?

Commuting stuff

I’ve been working for about three weeks now and in that time I’ve cycled to work three times. This is mostly due to me not having a backpack which suits my needs by being big enough to hold work clothes as well as a towel and lunch, although I generally don’t like cycling to work even with one because a sweaty back is never fun. I have therefore decided to change my bike into something more commute friendly, this means that the race tyres of awesome are coming off and wider tyres which should provide a more comfortable ride are coming on, as well as a rear rack and some panniers.

This should have the advantage of letting me carry all my crap to work without too much discomfort while adding extra weight to make things slightly more challenging.

I’ll always be able to take that stuff off again when I need/want to.

Stonehenge

I went to Stonehenge yesterday and wasn’t particularly impressed, especially by the rope keeping visitors at least 5m away from it at all times.

You get a free audio tour so that made the entry worth it I suppose, as did being able to see it from different angles, I still think the people taking pictures over the fence from the side of the road had the right idea however.

Pictures to follow, probably.

Bastard tube

Thanks to the greedy cunts, henceforth known as TFL workers, going on strike and the subsequent enormous amount of people in the tube even an hour before rush hour usually starts I have lost something which I treasured.

I had a Red Hat Linux lapel pin attached to my backpack which was given to me at LUGRadio Live a few years ago, and as I’ve had it on said bag for months I was confident it would not come off.

Annoyingly it did and seems to be lost somewhere between Bank and Warwick Avenue, I’ve checked the intertubes and I don’t seem to be able to find any for sale anywhere.

So if any Red Hat employees should read this, please take pity on me and give me a new one?
I promise to bake you some brownies in return.

Back in loldongs

So I’m back in London for the summer and will be starting work again on Saturday commencing what will hopefully be a four month stretch which will bring me unimaginable riches…or at least bump me into a higher income tax bracket, higher in this case having to pay some.

Plans for the summer?
Taking lots of pictures, scanning a bunch of negatives, getting a tripod and learning to drive.

Exciting stuff, but I’ll keep this place updated for a change.
