On the news this morning someone stated that there are enough empty homes in London to house the population of Brighton!

This is hardly surprising considering that Brighton has a population of around 155k, which one would expect to be able to house in a city the size of London when one considers the amount of empty housing and new projects being built.

He didn’t specify whether he meant Brighton alone or the stretch of communities which make up greater Brighton which I believe to be closer to 460k a more substantial amount and therefore slightly more surprising, but to me that still seems like a reasonable amount.

An increase in empty homes in the capital is likely to be linked in some way to the recession, are people foregoing the convenience of working where they live for the lower cost of living elsewhere in ever greater numbers?

My tripod came in the mail this morning, so now I’m just waiting for the ball head to arrive.
Annoyingly I can’t reverse the bolt in it so I can have a play with the tripod before the head arrives but I suppose it just means the anticipation will be greater.

I caved and bought a tripod and ball head after deciding that I would own them for a very long time and that I had made enough money this month to justify the purchase.

I’ll write about them in more detail once I get them!

Seriously, due to work (work is great because I get paid) I’ve not been able to cycle as much as I’ve been used to or in a lot of cases at all so I’m now up to 8kg heavier than I was before moving back home for the summer.

I didn’t gain this much weight last year so who knows why?

I’ll get three days off next week and hopefully they will not only remain free, I’ll also hopefully stay awake. I had two days off last week but thanks to doing two night shifts that week I didn’t have the energy to go out and do anything nor did I know what day it was half the time.

Summer’s over soon anyway so not to worry, now if I could get my fucking tax issue sorted out, I thought I had but it would appear that it wasn’t.

I thought I’d take a couple of moments to explain these after noticing something at one of the offices I worked at today and something which is probably happening allover the country possibly even the world.

Antibacterial hand gel or whatever you may call them are not detergents for the most part. This means that they will not clean your hands and therefore do not use them to replace soap.
That particular office removed all the soap in the bathroom and substituted it with bottles of these gels which leaves an entire building unable to wash their hands probably and unable to remove dirt from their hands.

What these gels do and what they are meant to do is to kill any germs found on clean hands which in turn decreases the risk of spreading anything. If you’ve used them you will probably have noticed that they evaporate incredibly quickly, something they are designed to do, which again demonstrates that they’re not meant to replace soap and other hand-washes but only to augment them.

Use them after you’ve washed your hands or better yet as most soaps you find these days are antibacterial anyway just spread a few bottles around your office for people to use when they want. Also please note these gels dry the skin for reasons I won’t go into and should be supplemented with a good moisturising lotion or hand cream.

As previously mentioned I seem to be experiencing a traffic explosion at the moment so please take a few minutes to tell me a couple of things by commenting on this post.

Work moved me from Bloomsbury to Ealing in the middle of the day, which isn’t too bad as they double booked the place anyway and I don’t really like working with another person on a one man site…

So now I’m in Ealing which is a lot faster to get home from than Bloomsbury anyway.
