Marble Arch

As many of you probably know they recently finished revamping Marble Arch after roughly ten years of not doing anything with it, this included filling the water features up again and replacing the dead palm trees.

Said water feature is now completely green thanks to an algae bloom in it, what I’d like to know is whether this was bound to happen naturally or whether this is due to hundreds of tourists deciding that a newly reopened water feature in the middle of London is in fact a public swimming pool and bathed in it.

Dirty tourists ruining our city…

Or it could just be as a result of the water not moving thanks to the fountains being switched off.

Whatever the cause, the effect is that it now looks worse than before.

Also what’s with that giant statue of what I’m told is a horse’s head but which to me looks more like a giraffe?

Long lens is long

I couldn’t help myself and managed to score a Nikkor 300mm f/4.5 Ai-s lens pretty cheap on eBay and am currently waiting for it, it comes as a set of three lenses so I’m also getting a 24mm f/2.8 and a 50mm f/1.8.
Anyway the reason I find the 300 interesting is probably the same reason everyone else finds it interesting, you get to see things close up from far away.

I borrowed it from a friend a while back and liked it, but it’s hard to shoot hand held (or at least it was with two stacked teleconverters) but as I’m going to buy a tripod fairly soon that shouldn’t be much of an issue.

Now what really surprised me when I was using it was that I could walk through London with a lens combination which was as long as my forearm and no one gave me a second look.

Sadly it doesn’t meter on my D80 but the friend I borrowed one from is going to chip his so that it will and if he succeeds I’ll soon follow.

Not the most coherent post ever, but I’m still half asleep.

Shure E2c

I recently bought a pair of Shure E2c sound isolating earphones and must say say that they are beyond doubt the best pair of earphones I have ever owned. I can comfortably listen to music indoors with my mp3 player set to its lowest setting which is something I have never been able to do and I’m sure neither have you depending on the ear/headphones you use.

Most importantly I can listen to music on the tube without having any form of distracting background noise, again something I have never been able to do. Sure I’ve tried listening to music on the tube before but I would always have to crank the volume up to the maximum safe listening volume and would still hear more background noise than music.

With these on the other hand I have perfect listening clarity without any distracting background noise. I’m generally very careful of my hearing as I have a very mild case of tinnitus, so I really don’t want to exacerbate it in any way. I’m sure everyone reading this will have paid attention in Biology and will therefore know that once the hairs in your ear have been damaged they cannot be repaired/regrow and this in turn causes hearing damage…at least not yet, maybe in ten or twenty years depending on advances in stem cell research.
So anyway you should definitely check them out and maybe even get a pair.

Data entry monkey wanted

Filed under: General — Andreas @ 6:47 pm

I’m working on a project and have noticed how tedious it is to enter categories and various data sets, so does anyone want to do it for me?

The work is easy, the hours are long, I’m demanding and the pay is shit.

Any takers?

Plans

So here’s a list of things I’ve decided I’m going to do this summer:

  • As previously stated a lot more photography
  • Go to Edinburgh in September
  • Learn Dutch as I have so much time at work
  • Study for next year, also because I have so much time on my hands.
  • Possibly go to Munich for a few days to see something other than the airport and train station there.
  • Develop all or at least some of the unused domains I have lying around.

I’m sure this list is going to expand, but it’s a good starting point.

I’m bored right now, and since I know a bit about the industry as a side effect of studying for my degree I thought I’d take a little time out and share since people seem confused about.

Too much spare time

Since Uni broke up for summer I’ve done very little to prepare for next year but have done a lot of personal reading while at work.
It’s pretty good because I’ve read about a dozen books since starting work again, a lot more than I have time or the will for at Uni.

However I’ve decided I’m going to read my latest three acquisitions (I can’t walk past a bookshop if I have money in my pocket without buying something) and after that I will concentrate on academic reading. I have very little to do at work so I might as well get around to studying instead of just saying I will and getting engrossed in yet another novel.

Why hello there

I seem to be experiencing some sort of traffic explosion!

I find it good because it tickles my ego, the people coming here on the other hand probably don’t like it so much as they’re bound to be looking for porn.

Anyway hello you lovable bunch of internet perverts!
