“Roy needs to learn how to use titles” – Ebola

To continue on Ebola’s post about learning languages, I’ve always been really interested in languages and linguistics in general, and I’ve been trying to learn some languages on and off for a while, outside of school.

I know Dutch, English and possibly French fluently as of now, I can do a bit of basic conversation in German, and I’ve been trying Finnish with some friends I know over Messenger. I’ve tried and will continue to try learning more Finnish as I go, but I don’t use it as often as I’d like, which means I don’t learn much.

My newest idea is to learn Russian, the language seems pretty straightforward and cool so far, and it just sounds nice to shout at people in. The only problem is that I know at most two people who speak Russian, let alone speak it fluently, so that’ll leave a lot of practicing to myself. Oh well, it’s not like I’m gonna end up actually using much of it, I just find learning new languages interesting.

Although I still want to go to Finland, which I might do with a couple of my best friends in two years. That’ll give me a great chance to practice some basic sentences, e.g. “Where is the bathroom” and stuff like that in Finnish, although it’s still two years from now.

In case you’re as crazy as me and want to learn Russian, I recommend http://langintro.com/rintro/index.htm as a very good introduction to the Russian(read: Cyrillic) alphabet, which also covers some basic vocabulary using the letters you’re learning.

If you have any remarks, email me or use the comment thingymajig, although I doubt I’ll be looking at that comment counter much.
And I know, I suck at writing.
